Alief ISD is proud to celebrate Kerr High School student Katlyn Khuu for her outstanding achievement as a 2026 National ARTEFFECT Finalist. Katlyn was selected from a highly competitive pool of entries submitted by students from around the world, earning recognition for her artistic talent, research, and storytelling.

Katlyn's colored pencil drawing, A Heart to Another, highlights the remarkable contributions of pioneering pediatric cardiologist Dr. Helen Taussig. Through her artwork, Katlyn captures the profound impact Dr. Taussig had on the lives of children with congenital heart conditions and the lasting legacy she left in the field of medicine.

The ARTEFFECT competition challenges students to explore the lives of unsung heroes whose actions have made a positive difference in the world. Participants conduct in-depth research and create original works of art that tell the stories of individuals who have inspired change through courage, innovation, and service. Katlyn's piece stood out among global submissions for its creativity, artistic excellence, and thoughtful interpretation of Dr. Taussig's contributions.

Adding to this prestigious recognition, Katlyn's artwork is also featured on the Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes website, where visitors can learn more about her artistic process and the historical significance of Dr. Taussig's work.

Katlyn's accomplishment reflects the exceptional talent, dedication, and academic excellence fostered at Kerr High School and throughout Alief ISD. Her achievement serves as an inspiration to fellow students, demonstrating the power of combining research, creativity, and a passion for making meaningful connections between history and the present.

Congratulations to Katlyn Khuu on this remarkable national honor. Alief ISD celebrates her success and looks forward to seeing her continue to make an impact through her artistic and academic pursuits.
